After years of success as Lyft's flagship piece of hardware, work began on a replacement for the Amp in 2019. Glow, as it would come to be called, is the brighter, more powerful, more accurate, customisable heir to the Amp. After being involved in the hardware animation for most of 2020 the Product Design team at Lyft asked me to help with the various touchpoints in app.
First priority was assisting drivers in the installation of new devices. I worked with the illustration team to create a series of Lottie animations that would serve as a step by step guide for setting up a new Glow.
On the rider side there were several animated components needed. I repurposed the beaconing animations to help prototype the custom color selector (including premium variants for Lyft Pink members).
Once a rider selected a specific color and animation pattern it would appear in multiple places throughout the app. The 2 basic assets created were the "pill" and "ring". I was named as an inventor on the patent for this work (U.S. Patent D1042532)
